Where Is The Proposed Evans Head Airpark?

Evans Head is a small NSW coastal town 180km south of Brisbane, offering a wonderful opportunity to get away from it all.   On the banks of the Evans Head River, and tucked between the Broadwater and Bundjalong National Parks, it has preserved a small and intimate air that is missing from other coastal towns.  With the river offering shade and plenty of safe swimming, a fantastic surfing beach just one hundred metres from the town centre and a good selection of businesses and services including a local RSL with spectacular views overlooking the river, Evans Head is a hidden jewel of the north coast of NSW.  On top of all this, Evans Head also boasts one of the most significant and impressive aerodromes in Australia, a remnant of WWII, which attracts crowds every year to the Great Eastern Fly-In.

Evans Head is typified by long sandy beaches which attract both fishermen and surfers.  Main beach (north of the breakwater) is a patrolled beach in holiday seasons and on weekends, and sweeping around Goanna Headland, there is a great swell which attracts surfers all year round.  Along the Evans River estuary, there are plenty of long sandy beaches, where clear shallow water and plenty of shade make for an ideal and beautiful stop for parents with young children.

Fishing is plentiful around Evans Head, with a significant fishing fleet being testament to this.  Prawns have been the main catch of the day for many years, with the port being the first in the state to catch them in commercial quantities.  Tuna fishing is now also playing an important part of the local fishing industry.

The Broadwater and Bundjalung National Parks are nearby and offer interesting and spectacluar walks through littoral rainforest, heathland vegetation, unspoiled beaches and also offering the  opportunity to explore some aboriginal culture.

The Great Eastern Fly-In is held each year, attracting aircraft, pilots and their families, and the general community from all over Australia to Evans Head.  With on site camping, joy flights, dazzling air demonstrations, and vintage aircraft and vehicles on display, it is a major attraction to the region.  Community markets are held each month, and the Seafood Carnival is held in August.  The Flower Show and Longboard Invitational are other notable and exciting events and are held in September each year.
